Hi and welcome to my homepage! I'm Sara, an experienced postnatal doula based in Guildford, Surrey. I am a mum of 2 (daughter born 2017, son born 2020), a wife and a friend to many. Becoming a mum for the 1st time was life changing for me and the reason I decided to train as a doula. I feel passionate about mother's wellbeing, be it during pregnancy or in the postnatal period. I have supported several families who have found my support invaluable. You can find some testimonials from my previous clients here.
I found my 1st pregnancy very overwhelming due to a variety of complications which I believe lead to me becoming a very anxious 1st time mother. It took me a long time to find my feet as a mother and feeling comfortable in my new role, a transformation I never really expected to be so hard. Which is why I am now overjoyed to be able to support mothers to be and new mothers whilst they sail through sometimes the rocky waters of early parenthood.
I believe in empowering mothers through researched and evidence based information, as well as offering them a safe space to voice any feelings and worries they may have. I am non-judgemental, warm and kind in my approach and hope for every parent to feel emotionally held and respected in their early days of parenthood.
As your postnatal doula I offer you emotional and practical support in your home after you've welcomed your baby. Before the arrival of your baby we can sit down to discuss what your postnatal period, often described as the 4th trimester, will look like. A well planned postnatal period can make all the difference in mother's well being and confidence.
Although there is a lot of talk about the 4th trimester, I am happy to support mothers and parents anytime during the 1st year of parenting (and before). Sometimes it might be along the way that we realise that some help and support could be useful or perhaps you have come across challenges that now require closer attention. Or maybe your partner needs to travel for work for a longer period of time and you would like an extra pair of hands to help you keep your household ticking over. I am very flexible with my offerings and can offer ad-hoc drop in support as and when needed.
As a postnatal doula I do not offer advice, but purely support you in your decisions on how you wish to parent. You can consider me your personal cheerleader as you grow into your new role as a parent. Should there be questions, I'm happy to signpost you to evidence based information and I can be your sounding board to help you reflect on what is best for your family. I come with my arms wide open ready to help you feel heard and supported.
Currently I don't offer support during labour and birth, but I love supporting pregnant mummas to draft their birth preferences and through any pregnancy complications be it physical or emotional support or information that they need. I can signpost you to information that you might need to make decisions on your journey and I also have a little library of birth and postnatal related books that I am happy to lend to my clients.
