Hi and welcome to my homepage! I'm Sara, an experienced postnatal doula based in Guildford, Surrey. I offer my services around Guildford, Godalming, Woking and the surrounding villages in Surrey and Hampshire , offering new and growing families postnatal practical, informational and emotional support. I am fully recognised postnatal doula by Doula UK recognition process and I have also trained in Birthing Awareness 3 step process to help traumatised parents to heal or feel more positive about their birth experiences. I have supported several families who have found my support invaluable in the early days of their parenting journey. You can find some kind words from my previous clients in the "Testimonials" section of this website.
I myself am a mum of 2 (daughter born 2017, son born 2020), a wife, a friend to many and a woman fast approaching midlife. Becoming a mum for the 1st time was life changing for me and the reason I decided to train as a doula. I found my 1st pregnancy very overwhelming due to a variety of complications which I believe lead to me becoming a very anxious 1st time mother. It took me a long time to find my feet as a mother and feeling comfortable in my new role, a transformation I never really expected to be so hard. Which is why I am now overjoyed to be able to support mothers to be and new mothers whilst they sail through all the emotions and feelings of becoming a mother, a transformation called matresence. I am a huge empath and believe in making the parents I support feel seen and heard in all the feelings and emotions of new parenthood. I am non-judgmental, warm and kind in my approach and hope for every parent to feel emotionally held and respected in the early days of their parenting journey. I have experience in supporting families with twins, mothers recovering from natural, assisted and caesarean births, supporting families through their feeding choices and parents recovering from traumatic birth experiences.
As your postnatal doula I offer you emotional and practical support in your home after you've welcomed your baby. Before the arrival of your baby we can sit down to discuss what your postnatal period, often described as the 4th trimester, might look like. A well thought postnatal period can make all the difference in mother's well being and confidence. I can signpost you to evidence based information and we will discuss practicalities of having a newborn as well as the impact having a baby can have on our mental and emotional health. I will also hep you build your own village of practitioners that can help you should you come across any questions that are beyond my knowledge and expertise.
Although there is a lot of talk about the 4th trimester, I am happy to support mothers and parents anytime during the 1st year of parenting (and before). Sometimes it might be along the way that we realise that some help and support could be useful or perhaps you have come across challenges that now require closer attention. Maybe your partner needs to travel for work for a longer period of time and you would like an extra pair of hands to help you keep your household ticking over. I am very flexible with my offerings and can offer ad-hoc drop in support as and when needed (subject to availability).
Currently I don't offer support during labour and birth, but I love supporting pregnant mummas to draft their birth preferences and through any pregnancy complications be it physical or emotional support or information that they need. I can signpost you to information that you might need to make decisions on your journey and I also have a little library of birth and postnatal related books that I am happy to lend to my clients.
